I’m Alan, a midlife runner. What does that mean? To me, it’s not a midlife crisis, I’m just a middle-aged, middle of the pack runner, trying to get faster before father time catches me.
I ran cross-country and track in junior high and high school until a disagreement with a coach over “optional” practice ended my high school running career. Fast forward 30 years, poor dieting and lack of regular exercise turned me into the typical middle-aged guy struggling to keep weight off. To help keep me motivated getting to the gym I started signing up for 5K races. After a cousin ran a half marathon it inspired me to try running a half – now I’m addicted.
My goal now is to run a half marathon in every U.S. state. In addition to the dedication required to train my body and mind, there’s also the logistics and cost of travel to the races. I started this blog to document and share my journey. Good and bad. I hope others can learn from my successes and failures, or at least have a good laugh with or at me.
